Jospong Group Signs Strategic Agreement to Develop Waste Treatment Infrastructure in Burkina Faso

The Jospong Group of Companies is expanding its footprint across Africa with plans to introduce sustainable waste management solutions in Burkina Faso. The Group’s Executive Chairman and Founder, Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong, recently led a high-level delegation to Ouagadougou to engage with the Prime Minister of Burkina Faso, Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo, on opportunities to transform the country’s sanitation and environmental management sector.

The visit underscores Jospong Group’s commitment to supporting African-led development through innovative waste management systems, job creation, and sustainable infrastructure.

High-Level Engagement to Advance Waste Management in Burkina Faso

Dr. Agyepong was accompanied by His Excellency Major Colonel David Kabré, Ambassador of Burkina Faso to Ghana, and Hon. Roger Baro, Burkina Faso’s Minister of Environment, Water and Sanitation.

Discussions focused on leveraging Jospong Group’s extensive expertise in sustainable waste management, recycling, sanitation, and environmental services to address growing waste management challenges in Burkina Faso.

The engagement culminated in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ministry of Environment, Water and Sanitation and the Ghana-based Jospong Group. The agreement marks a major milestone toward the construction of a modern waste treatment plant in Burkina Faso.

Ghana-Burkina Faso Cooperation Drives Sustainable Development

The project stems from ongoing discussions between Ghanaian and Burkinabe authorities following the official visit of Ghana’s President, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, to Burkina Faso on March 10. It forms part of a broader South-South cooperation initiative aimed at promoting sustainable development, environmental protection, and employment opportunities across West Africa.

Prime Minister Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo reaffirmed the Burkinabe Government’s commitment to supporting the project and praised Jospong Group’s achievements in Ghana and other African countries.

“We believe in promoting the expertise of Africans and hope you will share this expertise with the young people of Burkina Faso,” the Prime Minister stated.

He expressed optimism that the initiative would contribute significantly to youth employment, improved sanitation, public health, and the reduction of environmentally related diseases. He also reiterated the Government’s commitment to supporting investors who contribute to the country’s development agenda.

Jospong Group to Train Burkinabe Youth for Local Operations

In his remarks, Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong congratulated the President of Burkina Faso, H.E. Captain Ibrahim Traoré, for the country’s development efforts and strong Pan-African vision.

With more than two decades of experience in waste management and operations spanning 24 African countries, Jospong Group intends to deploy proven technologies, operational models, and best practices developed in Ghana to support Burkina Faso’s environmental sustainability goals.

Dr. Agyepong emphasized that local capacity building would be central to the project’s implementation.

“We are not going to import Ghanaian workers for Burkina Faso. We will train young Burkinabe people who will take charge of waste management in their country,” he stated.

The training initiative is expected to empower local communities, create employment opportunities, and ensure long-term sustainability of the waste management infrastructure.

Modern Waste Treatment Infrastructure to Support Environmental Sustainability

The agreement paves the way for the implementation of integrated solid and liquid waste management solutions across major cities in Burkina Faso. It also follows a successful study tour to Ghana in April by a technical delegation from Burkina Faso, led by the Minister of Environment, Water and Sanitation, to assess Jospong Group’s advanced waste management infrastructure and innovative sanitation technologies.

The planned partnership will facilitate knowledge transfer, technical cooperation, and the development of state-of-the-art waste processing facilities capable of improving environmental outcomes and public health standards.

Building Cleaner and More Resilient Communities Across Africa

Minister Roger Baro commended H.E. David Kabré, Burkina Faso’s Ambassador to Ghana, for his instrumental role in facilitating the collaboration. He encouraged Jospong Group to maintain a practical and community-centered approach throughout the project’s implementation.

The partnership represents another significant milestone in Jospong Group’s Africa expansion strategy, reinforcing its mission to deliver sustainable waste management solutions, create jobs, promote environmental stewardship, and support economic transformation across the continent.

As Burkina Faso advances its environmental sustainability agenda, the collaboration with Jospong Group is expected to contribute to cleaner cities, healthier communities, and long-term socio-economic development.
